Here are a few interesting plumbing facts you may not have known!

1. The word “plumbing” and the periodic table element for lead, Pb, come from the Latin term for “lead”, plumbum.

2. Al Moen invented the single-handle faucet that can control hot and cold water in one turn in 1937, after he turned on a two-handle faucet and burned his hands.  In 1947, he finally convinced someone to produce his single-handled faucet.

3. One of the reasons that manhole covers are typically round is because if they are turned sideways, they won’t fall through their own opening. They can also be easily rolled, to move them more effectively.
